SUPERB PAIR OF EARLY MURANO GLASS FIGURAL BLACKAMOORS DOUBLE CANDLESTICKS BY ERCOLE BAROVIER FOR BAROVIER & TOSOITALY LATE 1930SOut for a bid is a magnificent pair of Venetian free hand blown glass kneeling figures of blackamoor candle bearers. An stunning Murano glass sculptures of unique quality. The African men in formal western attire have open arms offering the candles and have ruffled collars and cuffs. The face, hands and feet in lustrous black glass. The pants and jackets in a sort of white pulegoso glass and the sleeves in clear and white glass plus an orange glass sash at the waist. All highlighted with burst gold foil. Raised on clear domed glass bases with gold foil inclusions. Truly a superb work of art, a fantastic and astonishing glass sculptures modeled with accuracy and fantasy. A huge pair of figural double candlesticks having the clear glass candle holders wrapped by leaves or petals of intense and vivid orange glass forming a sort of a cactus flower echoing the naturalistic Napoleone Martinuzzi 1930‘s sculptures. Simply breathtaking art-glass objects. Impressive and appealing items measuring a substantial 21.5 in. ( 54.5 cm. ) height; 19 in. ( 48 cm. ) width and 7 ¾ in. ( 19.5 cm. ) diameter at the domed base. Also heavy pieces weighting approximately 10.8 kg. ( 23.5 pounds ) each. Some minor damages commensurate with age: a minor crack on the right candle holder and another under the jacket right fold on one figure and some minor chips or losses commensurate with age on the other figure have been professionally restored at the highest standard by a glass doctor; otherwise IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. Unsigned. Possibly by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso and produced in Murano, Italy during the second quarter of the 20th Century, circa 1930 - 40s. You won’t easily find such an impressive and important Murano art-glass pieces. They are superb, massive, highly decorative and in pretty good shape. The perfect pieces for a modern décor.
